Sacrifice is Here!

The long-awaited third book in the Nevermore series is finally here!

'Enraged beyond reason at his returned wife's death, Paul has set his sights not only back on Salem, but on his own daughter Alexis as well. Having little choice other than abandoning their home, Alex, Salem, and Hannah begin to flee to an unknown location.

After a drop of Alex's blood streaks down her beloved book from her foster mother, the pages transform into a long kept secret journal. Inside what at first seems to be little more than a diary of an ancient vampire slayer, the trio find more than just hunting techniques. Locked within its pages contains hope of a cure, a promise of a new life.

Will Alex be able to decipher the journal and reach salvation before her vampiric side becomes too hard to control? Can Hannah really be trusted after what she has done? And is Salem really ready to sacrifice all for a normal life?'

Windows Eight

I have made my journey from the familiar lands of Windows 7 to the unfamiliar, yet interesting, world of Windows 8. Being used to devices such as the Kindle Fire and iPad, I adjusted fairly quickly to the new setup and I am so far really enjoying it. I can see a lot of people having trouble with it, disliking it, and getting lost very quickly - but overall, I think it is a great operating system.

Now, I am onto my next trip - from Microsoft 2010 onward to the upcoming Microsoft 2013! There aren't many changes with Word 2013 so far that I have noticed, however as soon as I opened it I immediately became immersed in writing a portion of book four!

Go check out the trial for yourself, if you are interested in testing it out :]

News & a Review

As you probably noticed, Sacrifice was not released last month as I had hoped it would have been. Life has been a tad more hectic than I originally expected, but the worst and busiest of it is passing. Unfortunately, I fear it will not be released this month, either. This is the longest 'break' between publishing that I have so far experienced, and I am really itching to get it out into the world!

I cannot await the reactions of my readers when they finally get their hands on a copy of Sacrifice

In the meantime, here is a snippet from the lovely review from Liz over at Fictional Candy

There is a lot of secrets in this story. It makes for a lot of interesting twists and turns. I generally liked the majority of characters. You have the main character of Alexis, who seems like an average teen. She is smart and friendly, a bit sarcastic. Then you have Salem, who is a vampire. His character is pretty intriguing and I like him quite a bit, and he definitely has some unique powers that I think anyone would love to have. His feelings for Alexis seem true and heartfelt. There is Paul...he started out at the bottom of my list, and honestly, he stayed there. The rest of the characters were definitely interesting, and it was fun to get to know them. There were definitely some I didn't like, and they were portrayed well.

Also, a picture of the pumpkins my family and I carved over the weekend :]

Sacrifice Cover

Yesterday, I spent roughly two hours designing the cover for Sacrifice, and today I am here to share it with you! Keep in mind that there is always the possibility that it might change in the future, but until then - here is a glimpse of what to expect!

Quick Update

I thought I would inform everyone that Sacrifice is almost done being edited and will hopefully be released by the end of September! I hope you are as excited as I am, if not more so! :]

Also, in the mean time, I have been working on book four and focusing on another book on the side when I get stuck. I will release a cover reveal soon for Sacrifice!

Busy, Busy, Busy

I have had a busy few weeks - from packing up my old house, moving into my new house, and working on book four. Not to mention, after moving into said new house, my desktop was unusable for roughly four days...but I think that everything is settled now.

Rather Barefoot than Bookless [link will take you directly to review] posted a review on Hybrid, which was a delight to read.

This was a perfect sequel to Twin Souls and I truly hope we will get to read a third book about Alex and Salem. This is a lot going on in this book aswell just like in Twin Souls but in this one I think it's more action. And I must say OMG to all of the crazy, sad and confusing things that Alex have to endure in this book. I would crumble instantly if I was her.

The story is so well written and you can really picture everything in your mind which I love!
Thanks to K.A. Poe for writing such a great story!

I have also recently received a few fan mail e-mails, which I never expected! But I am beyond ecstatic :)

Also, the results of the raffle will be released soon for those of you who are anticipating it.

I just finished adding brief biographies for all of the characters in Hybrid and Twin Souls, which can be found here.

New Review & then Some

A few days ago Dragonfly Editing posted a simple yet sweet review about Twin Souls

Ms. Poe's characters were real enough to visualize, a must for those of us who are visual learners! Alexis could have been the girl next door, well, until she found out there really ARE vampires! All of the characters invading the pages of Twin Souls behaved in a believable fashion. Although a bit like some other stories where the heroine finds out she's special and then finds a  soul mate, there were enough differences to make this story Ms. Poe's very own.

I will be looking for more from Ms. Poe.......totally worth reading.

I also came across a little snippet on Rather Barefoot than Bookless that made me happy :) It was part of a meme called Dirty Little Secret in which the blogger is asked a particular question and they answer it.

My Answer:
Hmm, this was a hard question for me, actually. I haven't read a book recently that surprised me that much except two books by K.A. Poe. I was pleasantly surprised that they were so good. My sister read it first and told me it was good but I still did not expect a lot. I have a thing where I don't want to have high hopes when starting a book since I don't want to get disappointed if it's not as good as I had hoped =)

Twin Souls (Nevermore, Book 1) - FREE on Amazon on July 25-27! + Free Amazon Gift Card Raffle!

Exciting News!
In celebration of book three in the Nevermore series being completed and awaiting editing and publishing, I have decided to do a massive giveaway of book one - Twin Souls!

This is an excellent way for you to test the waters of the series without spending any money! Read the first book for free by downloading it from the Amazon website between July 25th and 27th, and if you like the series you can continue to book two, three, and eventually four!

Getting new books out is a very exciting time for us, and we hope it is for you as well. To make things even more exciting we will be doing a sweepstakes/raffle associated with the free promotion of Twin Souls! For more information on how you can win an Amazon Gift card, keep reading to the end of the post!

The Book!
If you are visiting this blog I am not quite sure how you would not know what book I am talking about, but just to re-iterate which book will be going free, here is the cover and blurb!

Blurb: Seventeen year old Alexis finds herself on the eve of her eighteenth birthday. What generally means a step into adulthood instead opens its way to a terrifying truth about not only her family, but herself. She comes from a long line of vampire hunters, and her real dad wants her to carry on the family quest. At the same time, she is falling for a new boy at school who has his own secret. He is a vampire. Alexis is forced to make a decision from which there is no turning back. - Will she deny this newly discovered heritage, or embrace it.

Free!
'Hey, I LOVE free stuff and the book sounds great, but what do I do to get it?' - It is pretty straight forward. On any of the listed free promotion days you will go to the book's sale page on amazon - HERE and click the button on the top left to 'Buy Now'. Amazon generally makes you go through payment information or at least shipping, but have no fears - the book is free, and is a digital copy! (E-Book).

If you do not have a Kindle device of any sort, do not fear! You can still 'buy' the book when it is free and have many options on where you can read it. Most smart phones have a Kindle app that allows you to put your Kindle bought books on it and read there. Another option is Amazon's free e-reader for your computer. This is a completely free download and will allow you to read all of your Amazon Kindle E-Books from any computer. You can find the information on how to get it, and how to use it - HERE .

Even if you do not currently plan to read the book, or won't have time until way down the road, it is a great idea to download it while it is free and store away for later! The more free downloads we get the happier we will be, so tell all your friends, families, and heck.. even enemies! (hehe)

Again, the free download period is from July 25- July 27!

The Raffle!
As stated in the title for this news post, there will be a raffle for an Amazon gift card which you can use on anything in the Amazon store! - E-books, paper books, electronics, clothes, you name it!

Review & Spotlight

I was browsing Google about thirty minutes ago to see if anything has recently been posted about either of my novels - and I was pleased to come across two new posts about it!

Firstly, we have a review from Stories of My Life, which gave Twin Souls a three star rating and several pleasant comments -

Salem is a non-human-biting vampire, but before you compare him to Twilight, that's the only thing they have in common. Salem likes to take care of Alex and to pamper her, and when she's in danger it'll drive him up the wall...but he'll also respect her and allow her to act on her own, even if he thinks the risks are too great or would rather just be by her side and spare her the ordeal. I liked that. I also liked that he wasn't this all-knowing old boy, and his special powers? I definitely want to read more about that.

The fact that she didn't become a kick-ass hunting ace right away is a huge bonus point!

Then, I spotted a brief little spotlight over on Jeanz Book Read & Review. All it is is a copy of the blurb from Good Reads, but I appreciate the spotlight and hope that it intrigues some more people into reading my book[s]!

Review & Good News~

Today, I received a marvelous four and a half star review from Cecilia at Rather Barefoot than Bookless, and I will admit that I was as giddy as a little girl the whole time I read it! It was a good way to wake up :) [view review here

Here are a few comments on her behalf :

First I need to say that, yes, part of the book reminded me of Twilight. But Poe really made this her own story and even though a few things reminded me of Twilight, she made it her own and she did it good!

I love the story between Alex and Salem! They are both intriguing characters and Salem does have that mysterious vibe about him that just makes you love him more! Alex is a strong female but she is not aware of it but when she comes to terms with what she is by blood and when she sort of accept it she also finds her strength!

Then, not shortly afterward, my husband informed me that she also posted a 'Teaser Tuesday' involving Twin Souls. I was ecstatic when I found out! [view teaser here

And to make today an even more exciting day, beyond battling an army of ants that invaded through my back door, I was hard at work completing my final read-through of Hybrid and am happy to announce that it will be going through the formatting process tonight and then submitted to Amazon immediately afterward! So expect to see Hybrid, Book Two of the Nevermore Series on Amazon soon!

I am also getting very close to finishing the third book, and hopefully it won't take as long to edit.

That is all of my book-related news for the moment. Tomorrow I am taking my mother-in-law to the airport after she visited for a little over a month. It will be sad to see her leave, and my daughter Emily will be very disappointed :(

Cover Revision

After twelve hours of editing, deciding I didn't like one thing or another and changing it to something else, altering colors, picking just the right background, and adding all of the little bits and pieces that made it whole...I am proud to present you with the new and improved cover for Hybrid

I have also edited the font on Twin Souls to be more readable as a thumbnail.

I cannot wait to have Hybrid through editing and released for everyone to read!

Delay

I was having some issues with Amazon that have been resolved finally, however there is going to be a minor delay in the release of Hybrid. I hope to release it in the next week or so, but at this point I cannot make any promises.

On a lighter note, I was featured on Indie Author News and you can find the post here

Also, I have a sneak peek at the cover of book two to share with you!

I hope this stirs ideas in your head about what could possibly happen to change Alexis's life this time around.

I am seventy pages into Sacrifice and would definitely have more by now but I had to put writing on temporary hiatus while my mother-in-law is visiting. I am very excited for Hybrid to be released soon and even more excited for Sacrifice.

Whale Unveil

I am very excited to say that my book has been featured on Book Whales with an excerpt and brief interview with yours truly! You can find it here

My computer had a bit of an accident about two nights ago and therefore I had to go through the dreadful process of saving all of my important files on my husband's computer and my handy little Darth Vader USB drive, then re-install Windows 7 completely...but nothing was lost fortunately and I am back to writing Sacrifice. I'm about a third of the way through writing it, and my editor is working hard on finishing Hybrid.

In a few days I shall post a sneak peek of the cover to Hybrid, also...so that gives you something more to look forward to!

Diablo III

As some of you may know - Diablo III is released tonight at midnight! I shall be among the millions of players and I am incredibly excited about its release - finally! My husband has been waiting ten years for the release of this game, so he is even more ecstatic about it than I am.

But, I can promise you this - it won't get in the way of my writing or editing. I still intend for Hybrid to be released before the end of this month. A few things in my editor's personal life interfered with the editing process but we are working through that and my editor should have it done hopefully within the next week.

I am thirty pages into the third book and it has been a much bigger struggle to write than the first two for a few different reasons. This one requires a lot of research on my behalf and I actually had to do something that I have never done when writing a story - I needed to brainstorm and write out my ideas. Usually I just sit down at the keyboard and the words come flowing out, but this one needed to be plotted out exactly in order for things to make sense. Some things are also based in real locations so I am having to make sure I get everything as accurate as possible.

All-in-all, I think that Sacrifice is going to be the best book in the series...but you will have to wait until this summer to find out for yourself!

The Indie Spotlight

I woke up this morning to discover I had been featured on The Indie Spotlight! You can view it here! :)

I have some more reviews expected to be out in the next month or so, and I am working hard to get Hybrid edited and out for my readers!

Book three is taking a while longer to write than the first two as this one is requiring a bit of research and making sure everything is accurate. I hope to have it finished by the end of this month and hopefully out by June or July but I can't make any promises.

A huge thank you to The Indie Spotlight - I truly appreciate it!

Author Interview

I am beyond exhausted, I woke up earlier than usual to get my daughter ready to go to Story Time at the library with her great grandfather, aunt and cousin. Going to bed at 3am and then waking up at 9am is not always a wise decision ;) But, when you're up trying to write during the few hours of silence you get...I guess that gives me a valid enough excuse, right?

Here is the author interview I mentioned - Rai29 Book Read & Review. I hope it gives you some insight on not only me, but my book as well! :)

One month

It has officially been a month since I published Twin Souls and I managed to sell forty-seven copies in that single month! That may not seem like a lot, but I am still very proud of it and cannot wait to sell even more and for the sequel to be out and ready for reading!

I have several reviews expected to come out this month, so I look forward to seeing what everyone has to say. There is also an interview with me scheduled for tomorrow morning, which I shall redirect you to when the time comes for those of you interested in reading it!

A huge thank you to all of my readers as well as those who take the time to review my book - I greatly appreciate it!

Geeky Girls Review

I just woke up, and am a tad groggy but in a splendid mood after checking my inbox and discovering a great review done by Chantale over at Geeky Girl Reviews

I wasn't quite sure if I would like this one since I do not usually read young adult books. I admit this one was pretty good. Great characters and you can really imagine the characters. This one kept me reading until the very end and it got me excited to read book 2.

Check here to read the full review :)

Slight Retouching

After some unexpected - yet much appreciated - advice from a fellow author, my editor and I went through Twin Souls and edited a few things here and there that I somehow passed up the first hundred or so times I read through it. So it has been retouched a little bit and hopefully it has been improved :)

Now to resume editing and formatting Hybrid!

Happy Birthday~

Today is my husband's twenty-fifth birthday! Sadly, not only does he have to work but he is also sick with a stomach virus :( I had intended to make him a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, but I am afraid that will have to wait until he feels better.

Four years ago on his twenty-first birthday I bought him a really nice desktop computer to replace the old Dell he had for who knows how many years. It ran horribly and he could hardly do anything on it. So, this year I replaced his four year old computer with a brand new, even better, even faster fancier one!

Now he is all set to run Diablo III at the highest possible settings upon its release :P

New Cover

After a lot of input from fellow readers and writers, it was decided that my book cover needed a change. I contacted several book c over designers and discovered that their prices were way out of my budget, so I decided to try to open up my trial of Adobe Photoshop and see if I had any time left. Upon opening it, I discovered that I did in fact have time - I had one day life! So, I spent my time searching for free stock photos, editing numerous ones, getting input on Kindle Boards and struggling to find a font style that looked just right.

Then finally, I was done! All that needed to be done was to upload it onto Amazon, and that took almost an entire day. Now it is finally complete and any book bought from now on will have the new and improved cover.

I also updated the synopsis as suggested by some friends and fellow writers, so hopefully it is more appealing as well.

The Good and the Bad

For those of you that have not read the book and want to avoid any spoilers - DO NOT READ the below reviews and comments as they will potentially ruin some surprises for you. But if you don't mind a few plot lines being spoiled, continue on.

Firstly, I got a lovely review from Angieleigh over on Once Upon a Book [link will direct you straight to said review] and I was quite pleased with it.

Then, I stumbled upon a not-so-pleasant review from Elizabeth at Wading Through Electronic Ink. I am still thankful they read and reviewed my book, and I don't mind having a bad review, I know that not everyone is going to enjoy my book[s], however giving the wrong impression of what happens throughout the story is a little upsetting. My main disappointment here was that a lot of  what she said was inaccurate, and makes me wonder if she rushed through the book too quickly, missed some parts completely, or skimmed a bit.

After telling the plot she says: 'This is what happens in the first five page of this novel. I rebel against the system that says a novel must grip you in the first five pages, and I would never review a book without reading the entire thing.' This especially bothered me, as that is incredibly incorrect. Alexis doesn't even meet Salem until the third chapter which is in fact fifteen pages into the book. At this point she knows nothing about him other than he is the new boy at school.

'It's actually a common problem I run into among YA paranormal romance where I just don't believe that two people are really in love. I think anyone trying to write one should implement a three day rule. - also inaccurate.

The romance between them begins well after three days - and there is more to it than just falling in love, they do have things in common [music, books, etc.], and the sole reason behind Salem living in this specific town in Colorado is because his Sire [the vampire who turned him] saw him in a vision in this town with this particular girl as a couple. She says that they move in together in mere days, but in fact they do not move in together until chapter 12 - nearly halfway through the book. This is at first due more to situation than to love, they do not fall in love until even later than this.

'Other than the fact that she decided she could skip school as much as she wanted once she had a rich boyfriend and became a vampire hunter. I thought we all learned from season 6 of Buffy that slaying the undead does not pay the bills, even if you already own a house. And relying on a man for your income is totally passe. I feel like Alex definitely needed an 80's public service announcement to tell her to "Be cool. Stay in school."

Alex doesn't rely on Salem for income, or housing - he isn't rich, either. In fact, he has no money. At this point of her new found situation she still has money leftover from what her 'mom' left her, and as far as the necessities such as food goes - I thoroughly explain that as well. As far as dropping out of school right before graduation, it happens a lot. Sure it may have been smarter for her to finish, especially so close to the end, but with what all is happening in her life it is too much and she just does not care anymore. Salem helps her lie to miss about two weeks of school, citing a lingering flu. After this Alexis decides to drop completely.

Regardless of all of this, I do truly appreciate the time and understand that not everyone is going to enjoy my novel[s]. I am okay with getting a two and a half star review, heck I am fine with getting a one star review [and I know I will get plenty]. However I just wanted to highlight a couple of the points I found odd, considering the book contains opposites to it. There are a few more that are opposite of the portrayal in the book, but these were the most prevalent few.

Thank you again to both Angieleigh and Elizabeth, you were my first two reviews and I will remember you both fondly forever.

You have to take the good with the bad I always say.

Tiki

Dog and jewelry lovers alike -

My friend's dog Tiki is not doing well, so she is having a sale at her Etsy shop [Honey & Ollie]. Everything is %15 off with the code TIKI15. Take advantage of the sale on some really exquisite hand-crafted jewelry while helping out pay for poor Tiki's vet bill! :)

Here are some examples of what you can find at Honey & Ollie

100%

I have dedicated as much time as possible to writing in the last two days and have successfully pushed my book progress from 85% to 100%! I can hardly fathom the fact that I am finally done writing it.

Twin Souls took almost exactly a month to write, while the sequel [the title of which I shall reveal at the end of the post ;)] took roughly a month and a half. Now comes the editing and formatting, which may take up to a month to ensure it is as perfect as possible.

I am also looking into having a professional cover done for Twin Souls. While some people [including myself, but perhaps I am being biased because I made it] like the current cover that is in use, others have said it does not fit the category and is not very eye-catching. So don't be surprised if Twin Souls suddenly has a new cover in a few months! :)

There should also be some further good news later this afternoon, so long as it plays out as I hope...but more on that later.

And without further ado, I present to you the title to the sequel to Twin Souls!

In the upcoming month or two, expect to see Hybrid - Book Two in the Nevermore Series available for purchasing! :)

Blogging

The last time I had an actual blog was probably when I was thirteen, which was ten years ago. Most of the topics on there were in relation to ordinary things you would see from a thirteen-year-old - nothing anyone would really be interested in reading beyond the select few personal friends I had on there. So, I am a very inexperienced blogger! Most of my "blogging" nowadays involves pointless surveys that I thoroughly enjoy answering for whatever bizarre reason.

I think I shall begin by introducing myself, and explaining a little of who I am and what I do.

My pen name is K.A. Poe, which is just my first and middle initials and my last name. My two siblings and I used to have the exact same initials until I was married. We were all K.A.G. Kayla Arynn, Kyle Alexander and Kaitlyn Ambre-Marie. I made myself a promise to never do that to my children if ever I have more than one XD I have been writing short stories and poetry since as far as I can remember. It has always been a passion of mine to write and to someday have my books on the shelves - for now they may be virtual, but perhaps someday there will be physical copies for people to enjoy. For roughly four years, I dedicated all of my time to writing poetry and sharing it on a website called AllPoetry, I made a lot of friends there as well as fans. It's been a while since I last wrote a poem, but I won a lot of virtual trophies from entering contests on the website and had quite the fan base.

Now I stick to writing stories. I have a fantasy series relating to a prince, a potion-brewer, and a long quest to save the King which I began writing on and off back in 2005. I completed the novel in 2010 and it is going through the editing and formatting process, but I am putting the Nevermore series ahead of it in terms of importance right now. Whilst in the middle of writing the sequel to my fantasy novel, I got really tired of the genre and my husband [Adam] suggested that I open a new document and just write whatever came to mind. Fortunately, the night before I had a dream that I couldn't quite get out of my head so I began writing something in relation to what occurred in the dream, and that is where the beginning chapter of Twin Souls came from. So, I stopped writing the sequel to my other book and became obsessed with writing Twin Souls. The more I wrote, more dreams manifested over night and brought on new ideas that helped me further develop the story. While my fantasy book took me five years to complete [this is thanks to finishing high school, bonding with my at-the-time-boyfriend [now husband], and other life matters], Twin Souls took roughly three months to write, edit and format. I am now about 85% done writing the second book in the Nevermore series, and once I am done I shall begin editing and soon have a second book published. I expect to have at least three novels in the series, unless something persuades me to write further books.

Outside of writing, I enjoy playing computer games such as Sims 3, Skyrm and World of Warcraft. My husband and I were avid W.O.W. players for four years before we got a little burnt out [not to mention we had a newborn baby to tend to and that took away time from playing], but we are anticipating the release of the next expansion. The first few weeks after buying Skyrim, I was hooked and stayed up well into the night [beyond 2am] playing, but have since then taken a break to focus on my writing. I also enjoy reading, of course. My favorite series is Harry Potter, and I don't think anything will ever replace my love for the wizarding world of Hogwarts ♥

I temporarily pondered the thought of attending culinary school for baking and cake design, but decided that baking was something I would prefer doing as a hobby, not a job. So, instead of focusing on college I spend my time writing and making a 'career' out of that. After all, we only live once and I believe it should be spent doing whatever makes us happiest :)

On another note - I have a few more book reviews lined up for the upcoming months, but there isn't a set time for when they will be released. I will, however, update as soon as I know! I believe they will be out just in time for the release of book two, so hopefully that will encourage readers to partake in reading Twin Souls in preparation for the sequel :D

Sneak Peek!

You can now 'look inside' my book prior to reading it. The sample provides almost the entire first five chapters - take a peek and maybe even buy the book! ;)

One of my friends read the entire book within the last few days and gave me her reviews. I was beyond flattered by her words and am so glad that she enjoyed it :)
